Harpenden Colts Power into Cup Semi
Harpenden Colts 41 Fullerians Colts 12
A powerful performance from Harp Colts saw them smoothly move past current Champions Fullers and into the semi finals of the Herts County Cup outscoring their rivals by seven tries to two. This was the second time in as many weeks that Harp beat Fullers whose fierce rivalry goes back to the minis.
Despite both sides having a number of absentees it was a fine rugby match - open, fast and played in great spirit. The key was the pace of Harp backs superbly marshalled by Gilligan at fly half who brought control and oozed class every time he touched the ball. Harps backs were a constant threat and it was no surprise when Muskett opened the scoring after five minutes from a solo effort with a kick ahead sprint catch and touch down. With the forwards providing quick ball further tries from Gilligan and Davies made the score 19-7 at half time.
The second half all belonged to Harp with the brilliant Pattison scoring three tries, back to his elusive best and tormenting Fullers every time he had the ball. Strong forward performances from the Wilkinson brothers, MacPherson, Reeder, Sharpe, Nel, Cornthwaite & Riccarty were at the heart of Harps effort.
Branston with some great tackling & catching, Davies` dangerous running, Caetano proving a nuisance everywhere, Staggs measured composure and Stichburys assured distribution and tacking - all played their parts and there were notable contributions from Taff and the returning Ward.
Harp try scorers - Gilligan, Caetano, Davies, Muskett and three from the ever dangerous Charlie Pattison plus two cons from Stagg.
Harp play Bishop Stortford in the semi final at home at 1pm on Sun 6 April.
